Student Assistance Program
The Student Assistance Program is a comprehensive and integrated school/community program for prevention, intervention, support, and referral services for students at risk for substance use, addictive behaviors, and other mental health concerns.
Our Student Assistance Coordinator (SAC) has an open-door policy and is available to ALL students.. Students can request an appointment with Ms. Rodgers electronically or in person by stopping by the School Counseling Office. Students are protected by federal law, which grants them confidentiality (excluding thoughts or attempts of suicide, physical/sexual abuse or neglect, or threats of physical/sexual abuse against another person.) In addition to self-referral, teachers, administrators, parents and peers may refer a student to the SAC when they are concerned about a student’s health and well-being.
The Student Assistance Program’s goals are designed, not to punish students involved with drugs or alcohol and other high risk behaviors, but rather to remove the aura of shame that surrounds such students. The SAC helps students take a look at their lifestyle, identify negative consequences, and develop coping strategies that result in better decision-making. Providing mental health support and referral to outside treatment services is also an integral part of our counseling department’s mission in promoting a healthy lifestyle. The SAC partners with a network of community services and agencies, creating a coordinated effort to promote a continuum of care and services for all students and their families.
S.T.O.P. Program
S.T.O.P. (Students Taking an Opposite Path) is a therapeutic/counseling program for parents and students. Certified counselors from the Center for Family Guidance meet with both parents and students in a six week session. This early intervention program is designed to reach students who have been confirmed as using drugs or alcohol and are being evaluated for developing chemical dependence which would require a higher level of care and intervention. S.T.O.P. is provided at no cost to the families. The goal of the program is to offer help at the onset of a drug or alcohol problem. Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying
The Black Horse Pike Regional School District is committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment for all students, free from the threat of H.I.B. The Black Horse Pike Regional School District has identified staff/personnel to investigate suspected cases of H.I.B., as well as to develop potential programs aimed at H.I.B. prevention, consistent with the provisions identified within the “Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights.”
The link below serves as a resource for students, parents, staff/faculty, and members of the school community. If you or your child has experienced, witnessed, or suspected a potential case of H.I.B., you are encouraged to report this immediately to your child’s building principal. You may also report incidents of bullying anonymously by putting a note in the "Anti-Bullying Box" in A corridor outside of the School Counseling Office.
