    Student Assistance Program

    The Student Assistance Program is a comprehensive and integrated joint school-community program for prevention, intervention, support,and referral services to students in the areas of high-risk behaviors including the use of alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, and addictive behaviors.

    Our Student Assistance Coordinators have an open-door policy.  Students merely have request an appointment or email the Student Assistance Coordinator.  Students are protected by a federal law, which grants them confidentiality (excluding thoughts or attempts of suicide, physical/sexual abuse or neglect, or threats of physical/sexual abuse against another person.) Teachers are often concerned about a student and may refer the student to the SAC for assessment, a student may refer a friend they are worried about, and finally, parents may call or email the Student Assistance Coordinator because they are concerned about their child’s behavior. 

    The Student Assistance Program’s goals are designed not to punish students involved with drugs or alcohol, but rather to remove the aura of shame that surrounds such students. The SAC helps students take a look at their life-style, identify negative consequences, and guide them toward making better choices. 

    One of the best ways to prevent substance abuse is to address the many stress factors teens experience and teach them coping skills to handle problems in a healthier fashion. Such an active program results from a school system and community dedicated to fostering an environment which supports healthy growth and development. SACs partner with a network of community services and agencies, creating a coordinated effort to promote a continuum of care and services for all students and families.

    S.T.O.P. Program

    The S.T.O.P program is a therapeutic/counseling program for parents and students. Certified counselors from the Center of Family Guidance meet with both parents and students in six-week sessions. This early intervention program is available upon request to students and families who are seeking support relative to addiction and other substance abuse issues.  There is no cost to the family. The goal of the program is to offer help at the onset of a drug/alcohol problem.

    Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB)

    The Black Horse Pike Regional School District is committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment for all students, free from the threat of H.I.B. Consistent with the provisions identified within the “Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights” the Black Horse Pike Regional School District has identified staff/personnel to investigate suspected cases of H.I.B., as well as to develop potential activities/programs aimed at H.I.B. prevention.
