How can my student enroll in AFJROTC at Highland?
Posted by:If you are interested in enrolling, you must fill out an application form that consists of 14 questions for the student. The form is located in the forms section of this site (Click on the forms and documents link) or it can be obtained from your child's school counselor. Once filled out, the form must be turned into the counselor who will get it to the AFJROTC department for evaluation of the answers. After the instructor's evaluation, an acceptance or denial email is sent to the guidance counselor, and if accepted, the process for transfer and setting up transportation will start.

Do I have to pay for uniform items?
Posted by:You do not have to pay for the initial uniform issue. However, if you loose an item you will have to pay for the replacement.
-
Is wearing the uniform mandatory?
Posted by:Uniform wear is mandatory once a cadet receives all items. The uniform is usually worn one day per week and at Highland that day is Wednesday. The uniform must be worn for the entire day.
-
Can a cadet be removed for not wearing the uniform?
Posted by:Yes. Uniform wear is a mandatory part of the program and this is documented in our cadet guide. In addition, willingly failing to wear the uniform is a failure to follow a directive/disobeying a command. However, if there is a mitigating circumstance such as a legitimate accident or an injury that prevents the wear of an item such as the required shoes, we will not hold that against the cadet. Additionally, a cadet that can't legitimately wear the uniform will be inspected on dress and appearance standards, which include inspection of haircut, nails and clothing without tears and the removal of piercings.

What if my child removes the uniform after his/her AFJROTC class?
Posted by:On uniform day, the uniform must be worn for the entire day. If a uniform is removed for other than gym or an art class and not put back on, the cadet will loose 10 points for each period out of uniform i.e., if a cadet has AFJROTC during second bell and receives a 100 for a grade then subsequently removes the uniform and never puts it back on, their grade will be reduced by deducting 10 points for each of the remaining classes (including common lunch time) of the day.
-
What if my child does not have his/her AFJROTC class on required uniform day?
Posted by:Even if your child does not have class they must wear the uniform. It is their responsibility to come down at the start of school, during the common lunch period or at the end of the day (before 2:30pm) to get inspected. If they do not, they will receive a zero for a grade for that day.
-
Is there a military commitment for joining AFJROTC?
Posted by:There is no military commitment. We are not a recruiting organization. We are a life skills course meant to prepare your child for whatever life they choose after high school.

What happens if my child is removed from the program?
Posted by:AFJROTC has the authority to remove a cadet for misbehavior, failure to conform to expectations and any other serious misconduct. Removal will usually occur after a cadet has received verbal counseling and administrative action in the form of letters of counselling or reprimand that are sent home to be signed. However, these administrative actions can be skipped if an action is serious enough, such as the instigation of a fight in uniform or an action that can be harmful to others and that brings discredit to the unit. If a removal request is sent to guidance and approved by the Principal, guidance will work on placing the student in another class. If the removed student was a transfer from TC or Triton, that student will be transferred back to that school.
